Aha Moments: A Few Reflections on Wellness
“Laugh, and laugh a lot! The medicine of laughter is within everyone, but you may need to start taking it.”—from Joel and Victoria Osteen’s “Today’s Word,” 1-30-15
Yes, laughter boasts amazing health benefits, so begin laughing this very second! You do not need to be on the receiving end of a joke and you do not need to think of something funny. Laugh just because. Laugh anyway, anytime, anywhere—just start laughing. In case you have forgotten how to laugh or if you think you need to arrange an established time for laughter, here are three ways to get going:
* Laugh in the shower!
* Consider all your blessings this past week and begin laughing out of gratitude!
* Keep a joke book in the car and when you are stuck in traffic, read one!
Laughing reduces stress, is a natural tranquilizer, engages abdominal muscles and improves heart health. Begin your day laughing!
Let’s elaborate on the first tip: Laugh in the shower. Belt out one big HA! Not done… another. HA! From deep inside your belly core, release three more…HA! HA! HA! You can hear and feel the reverberations. As the water is refreshing your skin, the laughter is refreshing your internal organs. You will like this new feeling and so will everyone else in your household. Laughing is contagious. You may have just started a new family tradition: Morning Shower Laughter!
Check in to see how you feel. Has your mood been elevated? Do you feel brighter and lighter? Now, that is worth laughing about. HA!
