Music Can Inspire — Or Help You Retire

As you continue to transform your life, what tools are you using for motivation and relaxation? While there are a variety of ways to unwind, I’d like to encourage you to incorporate music into your daily life.

Did you know that music boasts therapeutic benefits?
Yes, it can become your healing potion. Music has been prescribed to improve the body’s immune system, treat pain and reduce stress. Music touches the heart and soul. Why? Because it powerfully influences our emotions and has the ability to release dopamine and other feel-good chemicals in the body.

Music has the ability to uplift, soothe and inspire, or prepare you to retire.
Download and queue up your favorite tunes for various occasions.

Inspirational Tunes
Do you have a favorite inspirational song that gets you pumped and motivated? Perhaps it’s a tune that stimulates positive emotions or encourages you to take action. Name that tune! If you can’t think of one right now, take some time to reflect on pieces that you could regularly listen to. Make a song your motto. Memorize the lyrics then stand up and perform — belting out the lines when you need a break.

One super spark-filled song that I adopted is “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross. Recorded in 1980, apparently this song had special meaning for Ross, who left Motown Records to pursue a career on her own terms.

The lyrics are genius and seem to have been created for this particular time in my life. “There’s a new me coming out — And I just had to live — And I wanna give — I’m completely positive.” I have dedicated the second half of my life to elevating women, and this new charge has required a lot of love, attention, energy and commitment. The lyrics help fuel my passion for creating a global community of spiritually awakened women who want to make a profound impact in the world.

Meditation Tunes
Like inspirational tunes, relaxation pieces are highly personal. Choose selections that will support the mood you are seeking. Meditation pieces are great any time but especially in the evening when you need to unwind. What pieces will help you go deep, while elevating you to new levels?

Check out the album called New Perspective by Donald Byrd, one of the late, great jazz trumpeters. One of my favorite pieces, “Cristo Redentor,” is a soothing, mellow selection that puts me in a contemplative state. Also, listen to Runestone’s Sacred Circle album. The entire album is my daily calming ritual. Check out the piece, “The Sentient Forest” first.

Tastes in music are as diverse as movie preferences. Queue up your playlist with selections that suit your senses, and simply tap on your device when you’re ready to shift gears. Employ music as your restorative practice.

Consider This
It may be fun to arrange your music by activities or events. For example, I enjoy R & B, soul, and rock & roll when I’m doing housework. And I’ll spin jazz and blues for my pensive moods. Sometimes I like background music when I’m working on business projects. Be inspired for all occasions.
