Ongoing Spiritual Practices Support Healthy Aging

What does the term “wellness” mean to you?

I’m in the business of promoting love, joy and good health. To me, health and wellness are ongoing spiritual practices. It’s the way we positively prepare ourselves to interact in the world. This year, I’m highlighting the importance of merging your spiritual practices with everything you do, in order to age beautifully and live your best life.

To be clear, when I refer to spirituality, I’m not talking about a particular religion. To me, spirituality transcends religion. So, it really doesn’t matter what religion you are or what term you choose to describe supreme power. Spirituality is your inner peace and knowing — YOUR truth. I’m referring to a guiding force — acknowledging, having access to, and trusting a higher power that connects you to your higher self and to the world. I believe spirituality is life-affirming wisdom. And because spirituality is very personal, I’m sure you will be able to describe what it means you, based on your experiences and faith traditions.

Let’s explore this a little further. You’ve heard me talk about the seven lifestyle components that support a balanced life: Nutrition, rest, fitness, environment, relationships, service and purpose. We all want to be glowing and flowing in all of these areas. However, synergy does not occur automatically. To facilitate the process, we need a lifeline. This lifeline is an internal support system of four fundamental universal truths I call Spiritual LIFE Principles™ or SLPs. The acronym stands for love, integrity, faith and enthusiasm.

You must love yourself enough and be courageous enough to embrace your truth.

Conscious health and wellness require that you activate your SLPs. Accessing your internal support system supports the body-mind-spirit connection and positions you for a more satisfying life.

But how do you position yourself for success? By changing your inner programming and engaging in affirmative practices. It begins with your thoughts and words. It also includes expressing compassion for where you are on your health journey. It means honoring your commitment to the choices you make in life and having the courage to pursue your lifestyle goals. Get excited about preparing yourself for your best life.

Know this: The key to enjoying a dynamic and fulfilling life is within you!

All you have to do is acknowledge your divine gift and take action to appreciate the goodness that is already yours. Remember, we must practice mindful living in order to reach mastery. We will be exploring the details of how all this works in future blog posts and YouTube videos, so stay tuned!

Consider This
“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit and that its center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.” — Black Elk
