Tutoring Develops the Student and the Instructor

There’s no greater joy than making a difference in another person’s life.  In a previous post, we explored the enormous reward of mentoring.  Another related area of service is tutoring.  Have you thought about using your genius to teach a skill to someone else?

If you’re thinking you don’t have any talents to impart, don’t even go there.  Your life experiences and personal circumstances have afforded you many opportunities to use your natural gifts.

Right now I’d like for you to begin brainstorming a list of your many talents.  Don’t judge yourself or your gifts—just sit quietly and jot down everything that comes to mind.  Next, think of where you might offer tutorial services showcasing your strengths.  For example, if you have patience and are good with numbers, perhaps you would enjoy tutoring math during an after-school program.  Do you like to read? Call the adult literacy department at your local community college and ask about their training programs.  Have you been sewing or knitting most of your life?  Teach others to create something special.  Are you an artist?  Look for programs and centers that would welcome your expertise.  Are you fluent in a second language?  Are you technologically savvy?

You have so much to offer, and the world needs you!

Consider This
When you tutor, you teach something that’s important to someone, opening up a world of possibilities.  Also, think of the rich personal rewards.  Through your instruction, you’re gaining a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, developing interpersonal skills, building confidence, and nurturing friendships, all of which will elevate you to higher levels.

Take Action
Set a loving intention for yourself by reaching out to your community and offering to tutor in an area of your expertise.  Take a deep, cleansing breath.  Now close your eyes and visualize how this lifestyle change can prepare you for your amazing second half.

Sometimes it can be challenging to maintain momentum on your own.  My Sprout Your New Life™ course will give you the tools and the strong spiritual foundation to make lasting change in your life.  Click here for more.
