Repurposing your life includes sharing it with others. In previous posts, we’ve explored the personal benefits of mentoring, coaching and tutoring. Today, I’d like to revisit the amazing rewards of tutoring.
Have you ever used your genius to teach a skill to someone else?
If you’ve never thought about tutoring, now would be a great time to consider your options. You can be great in this role because your life experiences and personal circumstances have prepared you with unique perspectives over the years. If you’re hearing this vote of confidence for the first time, please remain open–minded.
During these unpredictable times, online tutoring has become huge bringing a wonderful opportunity to share your gifts with others.
Right now, begin brainstorming a list of your many talents. Don’t judge yourself or your gifts — just sit quietly and jot down everything that comes to mind. Next, think of where you might offer tutorial services showcasing your strengths. For example, if you have patience and are good with numbers, perhaps you would enjoy tutoring math to grade-school students. Do you like to read and write? Call the adult literacy department at your local community college and ask about their training programs. Have you been baking most of your life? Teach others to create gourmet pastries. Are you an artist? Look for programs and centers that would welcome your expertise. Are you fluent in a second language? Are you technologically savvy?
There’s no greater joy than making a difference in another person’s life. You have so much to offer, and the world needs you, now!
When you tutor, you teach something that’s important to someone, opening up a new world of possibilities. Also, think of the rich personal rewards. Through your instruction, you’re gaining a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, developing interpersonal skills, building confidence, and nurturing friendships, all of which will elevate you and your students to higher levels.
