Can Lifestyle Choices Help You Live Younger?

Does lifestyle impact longevity?

As an Inspired Aging™ Motivational Speaker and holistic wellness coach, my passion is to inspire seasoned women to reclaim their health, confidence, purpose and power so they can flourish in their golden years.

As I was flipping through the pages of the October 2022 issue of National Geographic, the article “Live Longer by Living Younger” by Michael F. Roizen, M. D. resonated with me because the content is aligned with my messaging. The guiding theme is: If we make healthy lifestyle choices, we can self-engineer genetic changes to prevent disease and boost longevity.

Does genetics play a big role in whether you will live a long, healthy life?

According to the article, about 40% of premature deaths (occurring before age 75) are related to lifestyle choices. Even though lifestyle and genetics are interconnected, if you make certain lifestyle changes, you can influence whether or not your genes are switched on or off. What a compelling statement! Do you realize that just because you have a family history of a particular disease, you can, through lifestyle choices, change how those genes are expressed, and thus improve your chances of living a long and healthy life? The article discusses how, after implementing lifestyle changes like physical activity, stress management and diet regimens, people were able to turn off genes related to certain cancers and turn on a gene that produced a protein that causes cancer cells to self-destruct.

I’ve been intrigued by the science of epigenetics and can personally relate to the research. Knowledge and awareness can be powerful. One of the main reasons I started my business, Lifestyle 120, is because I was intent on reversing health issues that seemed to run in the family. By altering my lifestyle and adhering to naturopathic remedies, I experienced success. My newfound purpose organically grew out of my personal health journey: Show others the secrets to restoring their health naturally.

It’s not too late to establish a wellness protocol that promotes longevity.

And if you’ve been health conscious but recently lost your way, now is the time to recommit to your health goals so you can get back into the driver’s seat and continue on your journey.

You may recall my seven key lifestyle components that will help you grow and glow:
• Nourish your body with fresh, wholesome, vitamin-rich meals
• Establish a regular fitness routine
• Get proper sleep
• Create a comfortable and inspiring living space
• Nurture healthy and meaningful relationships
• Generously give back through community service.
• And pursue your interests and dreams.

When these components are integrated with the Spiritual LIFE Principles™ of Love, Integrity, Faith and Enthusiasm, you will be primed to walk confidently on your chosen path and live your best life.

We are reminded in the National Geographic article, “You have the ability to change how your body works and reacts — and ultimately how healthy you are and how long you may live. You should build a strong foundation now.” Healthy choices can help prevent chronic diseases and support your goal of living a long and prosperous life.

Consider This
Do not underestimate the power of your thoughts, beliefs and perceptions. Bruce H. Lipton, renowned stem cell biologist, internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit, leading epigenetics authority, and author of The Biology of Belief said, “I am a master of my genes, not the victim of them.”
