Haha! A Daily Chuckle Is The Best Prescription-Free Medicine

When was the last time you had a really good side-splitter?
As you continue to make your positive pivots this year, don’t forget to laugh! To get you warmed up, I’d like to begin with a few fitness funnies to help you get your laugh on today…

--Why didn’t the fisherman go to the gym? He pulled a mussel.

--Why is it that athletes can lift more than prisoners? Because the pros outweigh the cons.

--Did you hear about the marathon runner who got married? Well, it started out as a long-distance relationship.

Sometimes we get so busy with our daily routines that we forget to whoop. Just like anything else worthwhile in life, you have to seek humor. So loosen up and schedule it in your date book now! You’ve probably heard that laughter is the best medicine. A daily chuckle supplies heaping platters of health benefits. Here are some scientific reasons why laughter is good for you—

Laughter —
--  Supports cardiovascular health
--  Boosts your mood
--  Reduces stress and anxiety
--  Supports your immune system
--  Facilitates breathing
--  Relieves minor aches and pains
--  Activates your core by engaging your abdominal muscles
--  And much more…

You really don’t need a reason to laugh. Begin laughing at the silly, absent-minded things you do. Here’s what happened to me one day last week: I misplaced my master calendar and searched high and low until I finally had to focus on other things. It just didn’t make sense. How could I lose something that big in my own home? Later that night, I found my calendar under a stack of papers and books I was reviewing for a project. Haha!

Are you a little rusty on your chuckling? Perhaps you’ve forgotten how to laugh and need a starter kit, so I have a few resources to place in your punch bag.

Your Go-to Guffaw Gear
What you need —
-- A great book of riddles. To get started, type in “books of riddles” or “crazy riddles” in your search bar.
-- A collection of jokes, puns, and funny books and short stories. Check online sites for jokes and funny stories. There are tons! Don’t forget to ask at your public library.
--A collection of memes. Two of my Facebook friends are always posting heart-warming pics of their pets doing crazy things and other funny photos. Consider a collection for your Facebook page or share with friends and family in another way.
-- A supply of comedy movie titles. Think Jim Carey, Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Melissa McCarthy and so on. Sister Act, starring Whoopi Goldberg, will but a smile on your face. And don’t forget about TV comedies. Have you ever watched the comedy-drama TV series called Monk? It features a former homicide detective who suffers from a severe case of obsessive-compulsive disorder that includes his fear of germs and contamination. I chuckle till I buckle. Catch those reruns. You will be delightfully entertained.

The public library has a large selection of titles. And your favorite online movie services may have just what you’re looking for.

Set up your week with giggle-worthy material and be rewarded with better health.
