Make Lemonade: Turn A Bitter Experience Into A Sweet Advantage

Do you sometimes find yourself thinking about past mistakes more often than you should?

These thoughts may be preventing you from receiving your daily good. What you think about you bring about. Your health and well-being require positive, life-affirming thoughts.

But easier said than done, right?

How do you silence the negative mind chatter concerning past mistakes?

First, remember that we are all works in progress, and just by being out there participating in new adventures makes us prone to bloopers. That’s how we grow stronger. We learn from our mistakes. But what’s not so good is harboring negative emotions about a perceived failure.

“Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave.” — Mary Tyler Moore

Using mistakes to your advantage is key to your success. In fact, don’t view a mistake as a big issue that can’t be overcome. I consider most of my blunders opportunities to improve. You may not always be able to repair what’s broken, but you can creatively apply that experience to future practices. We learn by doing, and perfection is not a prerequisite.

“Mistakes are merely steps up the ladder.” — Paul J. Meyer

Reframe your unpleasant situation into a positive outcome. Turn bitter into sweet — sort of like taking tart lemons and making sweet lemonade. After your next snafu, use the following “elixir” to restore your spirit and set you on an upward path.

Lemons                                 You’ve just experienced a flop, setback or                                                  negative event.

Water                                     Pour it on!  Saturate your blunder with this                                                  life-giving substance — your creative thought. Sit                                                  quietly and turn within. Meditate on the                                                  abundance of ideas and possibilities that are                                                  available for you to download and develop. Let                                                  your heart lead the way.

Honey         Look for the good. Recognize the value. What                                                  can you extract from this event that will provide                                                  insight and inspire future endeavors?

“If life gives you lemons, don't settle for simply making lemonade — make a glorious scene at a lemonade stand.”— Elizabeth Gilbert

Try not to get too discouraged over one incident. In other words, don’t allow the event to permanently influence your attitude or to perpetuate self-defeating thoughts. You are not your mistakes. You are a creative being with infinite potential.

Consider This
Want to play it safe? Okay then. If you sit on the sofa contemplating life, you’re almost guaranteed a mistake-free existence. Is that how you want to live? Inactivity leads to mental and physical decline. You were born to live life boldly. Don’t be afraid to initiate a daring move. Embrace the successes and the failures, for the failures can serve as key lessons toward triumph.
