Oh, Nuts! Omega-3s Are In Scales And Kale, Too!

You already know that your choice in food plays a critical role in personal transformation, right?  Today, I want to focus on one nutritional commitment that can help to improve eye health, lower risks of heart disease, fight inflammation, support bone health, promote healthy skin and hair, and protect against age-related mental decline.

Want to guess what it is?  I’ll give you a hint — it comes to you from the seas, trees and greens.  It’s your omega-3s.

Let’s highlight what’s in the seas first.  Excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids can be found in herring, mackerel, salmon, trout and tuna, to name a few.  If you’re concerned about the mercury levels in fish, safer choices include wild trout and wild salmon.

Now the trees:  Impressive plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids include nuts and seeds like flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds and walnuts.  While nuts are a great source of protein and healthy fats, they are high in calories, so enjoy them in moderation.  And the greens:  Dark, leafy greens and vegetables from the cabbage family like Brussels sprouts and cauliflower can supply you with omega-3s as well.

You have many options for adding omega-3-rich foods to your diet.  And if you’ve been looking for a wonderful opportunity to showcase your culinary skills, stir up a meal featuring pan-seared salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, sprinkled with chopped walnuts.  Please email me when to show up for dinner tonight.
